Homepass

Homepass is an inspection app used by real estate agents to capture data on their open home visitors. Ever inspected a property to rent or buy? You know that iPad the agent uses take down your details? That’s Homepass!

Homepass was a great tool for agents to capture information, but we wanted to see if we could leverage the tool to improve the vendor experience. Homepass had a basic report, but could we improve it?

For this one, I hosted a mini design sprint. In Jake Knapps book ‘Sprint’ he outlines a 5 day sprint framework. In my experience these 5 day sprints work great in larger organisations with a bountiful amount of resources. Since Homepass was only a team of 8 people at the time, we organised a mini design sprint that was completed in 1 day. Let me show you how we did it.

First the prep work

Before we jump in we had to set up and run through some research we did. I interviewed 5 people who had recently purchased a home and tried to understand their experiences. I also ran through some live demo’s of current competitors, and leveraged Homepass’s own support resources like NPS scores to hone in on any vendor report feedback.

How might We?

Before we shared the feedback, we prepped our team with some instructions. We asked everyone to write some ‘How Might We’s’ on some post it notes as we presented the feedback.

Competitor Analysis

I began with a competitor analysis. We explored 3 competitors, LockedOn, Rex and MyDesktop. We were lucky enough to have access to these 3 platforms, so I ran a live demo session, starting from how to get to the vendor reports from the homepage, then how to construct the vendor report, and lastly how someone would send or share that vendor report

User interviews

I then showed the team summary information of the research that came from the 5 different recent home sellers I interviewed. Here are a couple of examples.

NPS Scores

According to our NPS feedback in the previous 3 months. This was how many people gave feedback on the vendor report

Affinity mapping

Once everybody had completed their How Might We’s we put them together on a board and grouped them.

After lunch

Then we had lunch. But when we came back it was time for our next activity - Crazy 8’s. Everyone got their pens ready and got sketching. Then we voted with our sticky dots.

The results!

The team voted on 3 initiatives

What next?

Here is an early concept of one of the designs I created. Unfortunately this project had to be put aside as other priorities in our small team took over. However I am still proud of the team work we underwent to help come to some great ideas and concepts. Maybe one day we will get to see a vendor report this nice in Homepass :)
